As we age and skin loses elasticity, we also lose contour and volume provided by the lost layer of fat on the face. This can contribute to a sagging, sallow, wrinkled appearance. Facial fat grafting allows Dr. Stark to use your own fat tissue to lastingly restore a more youthful, toned face.
Dr. Stark is a foremost practitioner of facial fat grafting in the Philadelphia area. This revolutionary procedure delivers natural, impressive results with much less recovery time than more invasive surgical procedures.
What is facial fat grafting?
Facial fat grafting is an autologous fat transplantation procedure that aims to regain volume of the facial contours and achieve a more youthful, lifted appearance. During Facial fat grafting. Dr. Stark Liposuctions fat from the abdomen, thighs, or other areas of the body. After this harvested fat is thoroughly purified, he then injects it into desired areas of the face using a microdroplet technique. This allows Dr. Stark to have complete control over the amount of fat he injects and create the desired contour and shape of the face.
The results of facial fat grafting can be much more lasting than those achieved with dermal fillers. Once the grafted fat is established, it again becomes living tissue, lastingly nourished by your own body.
Facial fat grafting may be performed as a standalone procedure, or as part of a facelift or more comprehensive liposuction surgery. Performed on its own, facial fat grafting may only require a local anesthetic. If it is part of a more extensive procedure, you will likely require general anesthesia.
What issues can be treated by facial fat grafting?
Facial fat grafting is a versatile procedure. Dr. Stark may use facial fat grafting to:
- Fill in deeper lines, wrinkles, and creases, such as nasolabial folds
- Create better contour in the cheeks
- Provide volume to correct a sunken cheek or undereye area
- Treat recessed scars
- Improve size and projection of the lips
In addition, harvested fat from liposuction treatments may be used to add definition and contour to the hands, buttocks, and more.
Recovering from facial fat grafting
After facial fat grafting, you may feel well enough to get back to your regular routine right away—but it is important not to engage in vigorous activity for the first week of recovery. The transplanted fat is still becoming established, and we want to ensure its survival in its new location.
You may notice mild discomfort, swelling, and redness up to about three weeks after your procedure. Approximately three months after your procedure, all swelling will resolve and the full result of your procedure will be visible. Depending upon the amount of fat that survives, you may need follow up injections to fully reach your goals.
