A New Way to Treat Dynamic Wrinkles

While wrinkle relaxants like Botox remain a staple at our practice, an exciting new Botox alternative has recently been released onto the market. Introducing DAXXIFY from Revance Therapeutics, the world’s first peptide-stabilized neuromodulator for dynamic facial lines. The results of DAXXIFY last significantly longer than Botox, allowing our patients to enjoy wrinkle-free skin for up to 180 days.

DAXXIFY at StarkMD

Leading the way in aesthetic medicine, Dr. Ran Stark at StarkMD Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center has been an early adopter of Revance products, including DAXXIFY, since the beginning. His Philadelphia DAXXIFY wrinkle treatments offer patients a novel way to stave off aging and maintain a youthful face and skin.

What is DAXXIFY?

While youthful skin quickly snaps back into place after making facial expressions, mature skin has a harder time returning to its normal position. Over the years, the skin loses firmness and elasticity, causing dynamic wrinkles to appear in areas such as the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. DAXXIFY counteracts the effects of skin aging by treating the underlying muscle. DAXXIFY (DaxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) is a minimally invasive wrinkle treatment.

It is strategically injected into the muscle to reduce facial expression lines or wrinkles caused by repeated movement. Like Botox, the highly purified botulinum toxin in this treatment interrupts the nerve signals that cause the facial muscles to move. Specifically, it blocks cholinergic transmission to stop the release of acetylcholine, a natural compound that helps the muscles contract. Since the facial muscles treated with this procedure can no longer contract, they remain in a relaxed state, causing the skin above the muscle to appear smoother.

DAXXIFY vs. Botox

The Difference Lies in Peptide Exchange Technology™

Many Botox users love their results, but they have to return to the office for a touch-up every three months on average. DAXXIFY, on the other hand, reduces office visits to twice a year for approximately 50 percent of users.

DAXXIFY outlasts the effects of Botox because it contains a built-in stabilizing peptide that helps the ingredients adhere to the treatment site long-term. It is also vegan; unlike Botox and alternatives like Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin, it does not contain any animal-derived ingredients of human serum albumin.

What can
DAXXIFY do?

If you are looking for a wrinkle treatment that lasts longer than Botox, consider DAXXIFY. This fantastic new treatment may significantly reduce the number of times you need to come into the office for maintenance visits. Following treatment with DAXXIFY Philadelphia patients are able to enjoy their results for six months, coming in just 2-3 times a year for a touch-up. The effects last so long that the manufacturer recommends re-treating the same area with DAXXIFY no more than every three months.

Can I be a candidate for DAXXIFY?

DAXXIFY only treats dynamic wrinkles, also called facial expression lines. The main treatment areas include the forehead, between the brows, and the outer eye corners. To be considered for this procedure, you should be in good health overall, you should not smoke, and you must not be pregnant or breastfeeding. If you have an active infection at the treatment site, you will need to wait until it clears up before receiving the treatment. Consultation and Preparation

During your consultation, your StarkMD provider will assess your medical history and the quality of your skin to determine if you will benefit from DAXXIFY or other anti-aging treatments.

They may suggest trying Botox first if you haven’t already done so. That way, you are able to get an idea of what longer-lasting products like DAXXIFY can do for you without committing to a long-term result. If you like your results, you can ask about trying DAXXIFY next time. Before your treatment, please avoid alcohol, nicotine, Vitamin E, herbal supplements, NSAID medications, and blood thinners for several days.

PREPARATION

DAXXIFY Procedure

To make DAXXIFY injections comfortable, your injector may apply ice or numbing cream to your skin before your treatment begins. Most patients find procedural discomfort minimal and are surprised at how fast the injection process is. They may ask you to make different facial expressions so they can pinpoint the muscles that require treatment. You will feel a few quick pinches, and then it is all over in just a few minutes.

Recovery, Aftercare, and Results

There is no downtime after the procedure. Tenderness, pinpoint bleeding, and swelling at the injection site can last anywhere from a few minutes to hours. Bruising may occur, but not in all patients. To decrease the risk of bruising, avoid NSAIDs, alcohol, Vitamin E, and medications that can thin the blood. Avoid lying down or rubbing the treated area for approximately four to six hours after receiving DAXXIFY. Exercise can resume 24 hours later.

Like Botox, DAXXIFY takes several days to start working. Most patients see a drastic reduction in dynamic wrinkles within ten days of treatment. To maintain your results, schedule a maintenance visit at StarkMD every four to six months or as soon as you notice the treated wrinkles returning. DAXXIFY cannot be repeated until three months have elapsed, although you are invited to return to the office after 14 days to discuss your results and receive a touch-up if needed.

DAXXIFY Frequently Asked Questions

As a minimally invasive treatment, it is hardly painful at all. Even patients that are squeamish about needles are surprised by how little discomfort they experience during the injections, although some individuals are more sensitive than others. We offer ice or numbing cream to make the process even more comfortable.

All in-office procedures carry risks. Per official reports, fewer than 1 percent of users had an adverse reaction. Some possible risks and complications that have been reported to the manufacturer include headache, facial paresis, and eyelid ptosis. You can mitigate these risks by choosing an experienced injector.

The treatment results last a long time, but it is not permanent. In order to achieve long-lasting results, most patients come into the office every four to six months for maintenance.

Pregnant and lactating women should not use this treatment. While the ingredients are unlikely to affect the fetus or breastmilk, ethical considerations have prevented researchers from testing DAXXIFY’s safety for pregnant or nursing mothers.

DAXXIFY is a convenient lunchtime treatment. You can drive yourself home, return to work, or do errands immediately.
