More than six million men and women use FDA-approved Botox injections to achieve a more youthful appearance every year. Dr. Stark and the team at the StarkMD Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center have extensive experience helping their patients to reduce the appearance of forehead lines, crow’s feet, frown lines, and other dynamic wrinkles with Botox.
What is Botox®?
Botox is an FDA approved cosmetic product that temporarily makes moderate to severe facial wrinkles less apparent. Derived from botulinum toxin, Botox blocks signals from the nerves to the facial muscles in the targeted injection area, reducing activity in the muscles. Although initially developed to treat various medical conditions involving muscle spasm, the powerful cosmetic benefits have made Botox injections the most frequently performed nonsurgical aesthetic procedure.
How is Botox administered?
Dr. Stark uses a very fine needle to inject small amounts of liquid Botox directly into the targeted facial muscle or muscles. Dr. Stark possesses a surgeon’s knowledge of the facial anatomy, allowing him to identify the specific muscles to treat in order to arrive at the best possible result. The injection will only affect those muscles into which it is directly injected.
The procedure is short and relatively painless. No anesthetic is needed during Botox® injections. Some swelling may occur immediately after the procedure, but a cold compress may be applied to treat this.
Allergic reactions and side effects are very rare, however, pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding should not receive Botox injections.
What are the benefits of Botox?
By reducing the motion of muscles beneath wrinkles, Botox injections give the face an overall smoother, younger-looking appearance. After your Botox treatment, you can expect to see wrinkles, lines, and creases soften and abate.
Botox may be an ideal treatment for:
- Crow’s feet
- Frown lines
- Forehead lines
- Vertical lip lines
- Drooping eyebrows
- Dynamic wrinkles
In fact, Botox can be an alternative to facelift surgery for some patients. Botox may also help discourage the formation of future dynamic wrinkles, as the treated muscle(s) remain immobilized over the course of those months. The lifting, smoothing effects of your injections will last for four to six months, and your results can be maintained with further injections.
Additional wrinkle relaxers at StarkMD
While BOTOX is perhaps the best known of the wrinkle relaxer products, Dr. Stark also offers an array of similar products to cater to patient preference and his own judgement. These additional wrinkle relaxers include:
- Dysport
- Xeomin
- Jeuveau
Each of these works similarly to BOTOX, but each has its own particular nuances. During your initial consultation, Dr. Stark will examine your anatomy and determine which is correct for your individual goals. It all goes toward the reduction of unsightly dynamic wrinkles.
