Available options for scar revision patients include
Specialized creams and gels, compression, and other topical treatments may be used to help reduce skin discoloration and aid in the healing of other scar revision treatments.
Dermal fillers may be used to fill in scars that are recessed from the normal barrier of the skin, creating a smoother overall look to the area and reducing the appearance of the scar.
Laser and light therapy
Laser and light therapy can help encourage the skin to produce additional collagen and reduce a scar’s prominence. Both the Sciton profractional laser and Halo laser are utilized in scar treatments. Sciton BBL can also be utilized in the treatment of scars by removing pigment and red discoloration from the scar.
Dermabrasion can be used to remove the top layer of skin of the targeted area, which can result in a markedly reduced appearance of a scar.
Chemical peels involve the spreading of proprietary chemicals on the skin to remove the outer layer. This too may reduce the appearance of scars.
In some cases, it may be necessary and possible to fully excise the scar and resurface the area with skin from another part of your body or a pharmaceutical tissue substitutes.
